The Australian Medical Council (AMC) has announced new speciality titles for doctors working in the fields of paediatric surgery, adult intensive care medicine, and emergency medicine. These titles will help to recognise the expertise and training of these doctors and ensure that patients receive the best possible care.

Paediatric Surgery

The new title of "Paediatric Surgeon" will be awarded to doctors who have completed specialist training in paediatric surgery. This training includes a minimum of five years of surgical training, including at least two years of paediatric surgical training. Paediatric surgeons are responsible for the surgical care of children from birth to adolescence.

The AMC has also announced that the title of "Paediatric Surgical Fellow" will be awarded to doctors who are in the process of completing their specialist training in paediatric surgery. This title will help to distinguish these doctors from those who have completed their training and are eligible for the title of "Paediatric Surgeon".

Adult Intensive Care Medicine

The new title of "Adult Intensive Care Specialist" will be awarded to doctors who have completed specialist training in adult intensive care medicine. This training includes a minimum of four years of medical training, including at least two years of intensive care training. Adult intensive care specialists are responsible for the care of critically ill adults in intensive care units.

The AMC has also announced that the title of "Adult Intensive Care Fellow" will be awarded to doctors who are in the process of completing their specialist training in adult intensive care medicine. This title will help to distinguish these doctors from those who have completed their training and are eligible for the title of "Adult Intensive Care Specialist".

Emergency Medicine

The new title of "Emergency Physician" will be awarded to doctors who have completed specialist training in emergency medicine. This training includes a minimum of four years of medical training, including at least two years of emergency medicine training. Emergency physicians are responsible for the care of patients who present to emergency departments with a wide range of acute illnesses and injuries.

The AMC has also announced that the title of "Emergency Medicine Fellow" will be awarded to doctors who are in the process of completing their specialist training in emergency medicine. This title will help to distinguish these doctors from those who have completed their training and are eligible for the title of "Emergency Physician".

The AMC's announcement of these new speciality titles is a welcome step forward in recognising the expertise and training of doctors working in these fields. These titles will help to ensure that patients receive the best possible care from doctors who are highly qualified and experienced in their field.
