All the Wrong Moves is a 1983 neo-noir crime thriller film directed by Walter Hill and starring Richard Gere, Tom Cruise, and Christopher Penn. The film follows the story of Perry Como (Gere),a private investigator who gets caught up in a dangerous web of corruption and violence in a small town in Pennsylvania.

The film opens with Como being hired by a local businessman, Arthur Baylor (Dennis Hopper),to find his missing daughter, Lila (Amy Madigan). Como soon discovers that Lila has been kidnapped by a local crime boss, Matthew Fox (James Remar). Fox is holding Lila for ransom, and he demands that Baylor pay him $100,000 for her safe return.

Como reluctantly agrees to help Baylor, but he soon finds himself in over his head. Fox is a ruthless and violent criminal, and he is not afraid to kill anyone who gets in his way. Como is also hindered by the fact that he is being followed by two corrupt cops, played by John Ashton and Ned Beatty.

As Como gets closer to finding Lila, he begins to uncover a web of corruption that reaches all the way to the top of the town's power structure. He learns that Baylor is not who he seems, and that he is involved in some very shady dealings. Como also learns that Fox is not the only one who is after Lila. Another local crime boss, Leo Getz (Christopher Penn),is also interested in finding her, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to get to her first.

Como finds himself caught in a dangerous game of cat and mouse, as he tries to stay one step ahead of Fox and Getz while also trying to protect Lila. He is aided by a local waitress, Margie (Mickey Rourke),who has her own reasons for wanting to see Fox brought down.
